COSMETIC PROCEDURE
FACE
Patients who would like to enhance their facial appearance without undergoing an invasive procedure often opt for non-surgical treatments. These procedures produce effective, long-lasting results with little to no downtime. Many non-surgical treatments are ideal for patients with a limited time frame, as well as those who are not ready or willing to undergo a surgical procedure.
With all of the technical advancements today, there are techniques available for nearly every facial feature. Whether a patient would like to eliminate fine lines and wrinkles, or attain fuller, longer eyelashes, the Women's Institute of Cosmetic & Laser Surgery can help meet these needs.
Whether it be a surgical or non-surgical procedure, it is best to consult with a registered nurses in order to be sure you are an eligible candidate for treatment.
At the Women's Institute of Cosmetic & Laser Surgery, our talented physicians perform microdermabrasion for patients who would like to achieve a smoother complexion without the need for surgery. This non-surgical skin treatment can diminish skin abnormalities by removing the outermost layer of the skin through light abrasion with aluminum oxide crystals.
Some of the most common reasons that patients have chosen to undergo microdermabrasion include:
Patients are left with a fresh layer of skin and women will be able to apply makeup immediately after the procedure and return to their normal activities. The pink coloration that appears following the treatment should subside after a few hours.
Depending on the each patient's particular situation, the procedure may be repeated to achieve more dramatic results. The average patient could return approximately eight times for additional treatments at about one to three week intervals. Patients have often combined microdermabrasion with other skin resurfacing methods, such as laser peels, chemical peels, and dermabrasion.
Patients should be aware that there are some minor side effects involved with this procedure, including irritation and reddening of the treated area. These should subside with time and are of no serious concern to the patient. With proper care following microdermabrasion, all that will be left is a smoother, more refreshed complexion.
The makers of Botox ® and Juvederm ® have created a new product that is meant to elongate, darken, and thicken one's own lashes. Patients who are interested in enhancing their eyelashes may now do so with Latisse. This new prescriptive treatment can be obtained after an evaluation by one of our doctors at the Women's Institute of Cosmetic & Laser Surgery.
One of the most attractive factors of this product is that it can be administered by the patient once a day at home. Patients experiencing hypotrichosis - inadequate or not enough eyelashes - no longer have to hassle with messy extension mascaras or tricky false lashes.
Results are seen in as early as eight weeks, with full results at 16 weeks. However, it is important to note that if the product is stopped, lashes will return to their normal state over time.
Patients are also encouraged to learn of any side effect when using Latisse. The most common are red, itchy eyes, but this will subside after becoming accustomed to the application process. If you experience any complications when using Latisse, be sure to contact a physician for medical attention.
